You are very insightful, e.g. in writing: “When I suggest that boxing, like comedy, is about rhythm. . . “ Your article creates this feeling of immediacy, and does so sublimely. When reading your article, I felt really drawn into the world, the reality of Garry Shandling. Now that I’ve read it, the feeling persists. Wow.
Of Gary Shandling you wrote: “A great boxer makes his opponent fight his fight on his terms. A great comedian takes control of a room.”
Of Amy Wallace I’d add: “A great writer puts her words so deep in the reader’s mind that the writer’s words become the reader’s thoughts.”
(OK, the preceding line may not resonate as well as your incredibly incisive simile involving comedians and boxers, but then, it is you, and not I, who is the great writer; in writing this post I realized how hard it is to write a great writer! ☺ )
